Fiji is a post conflict society and for Fiji to achieve true democracy, women need to be empowered.
These were the words of the Secretariat of Building Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections, Mereoni Taginadavui.
She adds that most women don’t see politics, leadership, voting or even getting a voter registration card as important.
Taginadavui says this is because preparing food and washing clothes is seen as more important.
She says some women have low self esteem because they think politics is only for the educated.
Taginadavui highlighted that women need to know they are very important in the electoral process as well as knowing their constitutional rights.
