More than 500 people gather in Lautoka to celebrate Prophet Muhammad's birthday

More than 500 people gathered at the Drasa, Vitogo Mosque in Lautoka as the Maunatul Islam Association of Fiji commemorated and remembered the birth of Prophet Muhammad today.

National Speaker for the Association Siddiq Faizal Koya says the event was a good platform to talk about the good values our forefathers have taught us regardless of which religion we follow.

He says it is a current trend not only in Fiji but all over the world that people have lost focus on moral values such as respecting elders and walking a straight line.

Koya says the program was an opportunity to instill values especially among the younger generation about the importance of living their life without suppressing or depressing others.

He adds the Prophet always believed in living a life of harmony amongst everybody regardless of race, color or creed.

Speaking at the event, Acting Divisional Commissioner Western Jone Bacau says the Prophet believed in equality especially amongst women and children.

He says it is important that people put those values into their lives.
