More than $10 million was used by the government in response to damages caused by Tropical Cyclone Yasa.
This was highlighted by the Director of National Disaster Management Office Vasiti Soko while presenting at the National Emergency Response Training at the Holiday Inn.
She says from previous cyclones, the area where the building code does not apply is the area where more damages occur during and after a cyclone and they are hoping to present a report to cabinet to ensure this code is standardized across the country.
Soko says climate change is putting more pressure on their work because of the impact it has on the ground.
The Director urges participants to understand the law and the Act that gives them authority during a natural disaster so they can understand the importance of their work.
She says they have 39 emergency operators around the country.
