More than one hundred people had gathered to attend the Diwali Utsav organized by the India-Fiji Friendship Forum at the Kshatriya Hall last night.

While officiating the Diwali celebrations, the Deputy Prime Minister, Viliame Gavoka says lighting lamps reminds us of hope, courage and wisdom and our shared responsibility to be the source of light in our personal, family, and national lives.

Gavoka says Diwali reminds us of the moral duty to give back to the community, lift each other in time of need, and demonstrate the true spirit of serving others.

He says through the enduring partnership of the IFFF and the High Commission of India, Diwali continues to be a free inclusive celebration for all, and such initiatives strengthen the unity and goodwill between people.

The Deputy Prime Minister says bilateral cooperation between Fiji and India has resulted in significant economic ties, with India standing as one of Fiji’s key trading partners, providing goods and services that contribute to our mutual economic prosperity.

He adds the coalition government remains committed to fostering these bilateral ties, as they recognize their importance in building a future of shared prosperity, stability, and progress for both Fiji and India.

Diwali will be celebrated next Friday.
