More support has been guaranteed for the Legal Aid Commission, the judicial department and other vital justice institutions in the country.
This is after the Fijian Government and the European Union signed a financing agreement worth 7.5 million Euros for the Fiji Access to Justice Project today.
The funds for this project is provided by the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme.
It will be implemented by the UNDP and will end in December 2020.
European Union Ambassador to Fiji and the Pacific, Andrew Jacobs says this will ensure that Fijians are aware of their rights and can action them through relevant state mechanisms.
The Legal Aid Commission, the Judiciary and other vital justice institutions will benefit from substantial capacity building through training, technical assistance and the provision of basic equipment.
Chairman of Legal Aid Commission Sharvada Sharma says this project will ensure that the marginalised and most vulnerable members of our communities are provided with legal assistance and representation.
