More finance is required to expand technical and vocational education training (TVET) programmes in Fiji and to be able to do more activities.
This was highlighted by the Pacific Polytech Director, Peni Taoi when questioned by fijivillage News about the institute's expectations from the 2024/2025 National Budget.
Taoi says they want to construct a practical area for the students so that they get to know the real work practice and also meet the industry’s requirement standards.
The Director says that currently there are 14 national TVET qualifications programmes while Polytech only has 8 programmes to offer to the students.
Taori says they are planning to get the other 6 programmes so that students have more options when it comes to TVET studies.
He says these studies include automotive, tile laying and a few others while there is also a need to change the approach to training.
He says the major issue in Fiji is finance as a lot of individuals would like to come back for training because they do not have the means to travel for their classes and in his submission to the government he has requested that students get travel allowance.
Taoi adds that if Fiji wants to improve TVET training we will need to have more facilities built that will provide better quality training and assist people in improving their living standards.
The National Budget will be delivered on the 28th of this month.
