More community outreach is required especially in the rural areas where women do not know where safe homes are located and which hotlines to call to report domestic violence matters.
This was highlighted by Miss Sigatoka River Safari Siteri Qalibau during fijivillage Straight Talk with Vijay Narayan when asked about how can the government and communities help women in Fiji.
Qalibau says if there is more outreach, more women will be voicing their issues and opinions which will be helpful for them.
Miss Apco Rowena Acraman says there is a need to create awareness and outreach on the assistance available for the victims of domestic violence.
Acraman further says women should be given grants to start their small businesses which will create independence for them and allow them to flourish in the field of business and have their source of income.
She says this way women will be able to explore their talent.
Miss Goodman Fielder Shannon Patrick says the government is doing enough but there are many other issues that women face daily.
Patrick says if women have access to hotlines they can call and complain and they will feel a lot safer however the initiative needs to be driven by the government.
Meanwhile, Miss Fiji Fashion Week Pepe Malani says another thing the government can implement is to have more rehabilitation treatment as many women are struggling with mental health.
Malani adds mental health is a result of the impact of domestic violence and they need a platform where they can freely talk about their problems and voice their opinions.
This year's festival will be held from tomorrow to next Saturday, and it promises to revive the magic and essence of the Miss Hibiscus Festival of yesteryears.
