More awareness on Bills such as the Sex Offenders Bill needs to be done in the communities especially in Churches, Temples and Mosques.
This was highlighted by the Rakiraki Advisory Councillor, Hazrat Ali while making a submission on the Sex Offenders Bill to the Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights.
Ali adds that awareness in these places will help people better understand this Bill.
He also highlighted that if the Bill is passed this could also have an effect on sex offenders who have served time in prison and later look for employment opportunities.
Ali also pointed out that in small communities and villages, there could also be stigma towards the families of the sex offenders who would be registered however he says that if there is a Sex Offenders Registration this will help decrease crimes of rape and sexual assault in Fiji.
