The Monasavu dam level currently stands at 724.65 metres which is about ten meters above the critical level.
Fiji Electricity Authority’s CEO, Hasmukh Patel highlighted in a media conference today that they have managed to preserve the dam levels by using more fossil fuel to supply power over the last six months.
Patel said they had put their plans in place knowing that Fiji was heading into a prolonged dry season.
Patel said FEA’s fuel bill is about $18 million per month.
He added that all the cost is absorbed by FEA and they do not intend to burden the customers with the fuel costs.
Patel stressed that people should use power wisely as it is costing the nation a lot.
However he said there are no plans for power rationing at this stage as they are certain that their plans will work in their favour.
