Digicel Fiji, BIMA and Dominion Insurance Company are now working together to provide affordable insurance covers that are registered and paid for using mobile phones.
The two products are Bimalife and Bimahealth.
Bimalife covers a customer in the event of death or permanent disability, paying out up to FJ $12, 000 to beneficiary.
Bimahealth covers customers in the event that they are admitted to hospital, paying up to FJ $96 for each night’s stay.
7,000 clients have already signed up since its launch a month ago.
Small payments are automatically deducted from your prepaid airtime credit.
Digicel Fiji’s Chief Executive Officer Darren McLean says they believe that mobile is more than just a tool for communication, it’s a platform that can bring valuable new services to our customers.
He says Digicel is proud to bring this the first‑of‑its‑kind offering to Fiji.
In approving the licence, RBF Governor Barry Whiteside says the provision of Inclusive Insurance is an important area that the Reserve Bank, National Financial Inclusion Taskforce and the insurance industry have been working on.
He says this provides low cost insurance products to the vast majority of the Fijian population that do not currently have any form of insurance protection.
