Solomon Islands representative to the 31st Miss Pacific Islands Pageant this year in Nadi is ready to take on the region.

Emily Laura Chan, who is currently pursuing her studies at the Anglican‑owned Saint Nicholas College in Honiara says that she is delighted to be representing her country as a role model for youths in the Solomon Islands.

Emily Chan was also the youngest contestant in the Miss Solomon Islands pageant this year.

The 18-year-old says that there is an increasing trend of unemployment in the youth population in the Solomon Islands and parts of the Pacific

Chan says that she hopes to see children being offered free education so that all children may have the chance to go through the education system so that they all may have a better future without poverty.

Meanwhile, Miss Fiji, Hally Qaqa will represent Fiji at the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant that will begin this Saturday at Prince Charles Park.

Miss Pacific Islands will be crowned next Saturday at 7pm at Prince Charles Park.
