Minister for Women Children and Poverty Alleviation, Lynda Tabuya says the Ministry hopes to improve the social protection system to seek to address risk, vulnerability, inequality, and poverty through a system of transfers to people.
Tabuya held a meeting with the team from Partners for Social Protection (P4SP) and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, led by the Charge d'Affaires Stewart Watts, and attended by members of the Fiscal Review Committee Vani Catanasiga and Vili Takayawa.
Tabuya says this is an opportune time for the Ministry to discuss the way forward and finding interim solutions towards the better delivery of the Ministry's social protection programs.
This partnership aims to reach people during vulnerable times in their lives, during times of economic crisis and in the wake of disasters.
The Partners for Social Protection team made recommendations on how to improve the social protection programs which the Ministry may consider to take on board moving forward.
Tabuya says she is grateful for Australia’s continued real commitment to alleviating poverty and raising the standards of living of our most vulnerable in society.
