The Ministry of Fisheries will start issuing fines totaling up to $100,000 to those found violating the seasonal ban of Kawakawa and Donu from 1st June to 30th September 2019.
Minister of Fisheries Semi Koroilavesau says the Ministry will not be issuing any fines that is allocated in the law for now but will continue to carry out the confiscation process.
The Minister adds that the confiscated catch is being stored in fisheries stations in the Northern, Central and Western divisions and at the end of the month the stored fish will then be inspected.
If it’s good for human consumption, then it will be donated to the Old People’s Home and orphanages.
The meat will be used for fish meals if it is unfit for human consumption.
