The Ministry of Fisheries confiscated a total of 500kg of Grouper or Kawakawa and Coral Trout or Donu during the four months seasonal ban this year.
The seasonal ban was in place from 1st of June to 30th September.
The Ministry of Fisheries is still collecting data around the country on the total number of people that were taken to task for not following the seasonal ban.
The seasonal ban was in place because Kawakawa and Donu reproduce between June and September.
Permanent Secretary for Fisheries, Craig Strong says the seasonal ban is a sustainable measure to protect the two vulnerable species from being fished out of our waters.
