The Ministry of Education is in the process of reviewing the exam process in our education system.
This has been confirmed by the Permanent Secretary for Education, Alison Burchell who was speaking to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Affairs.
She says teachers and students are becoming more focused on exams as external examinations begin from year 6 until their final year in secondary school.
Burchell says this is why more schools are making students stay at school after normal school hours.
She adds this needs to change so that there is an ongoing assessment of the students’ competence rather than relying on exam results to assess a student’s abilities.
The Permanent Secretary says the ministry is also planning activities such as suicide prevention programs, awareness on the effects of drugs and alcohol, sporting activities and other interesting activities after the exam period.
