The High Commissioner of New Zealand to Fiji, Charlotte Darlow officially handed over items including VHF analogue repeaters, power supply units, antennas, feeder cables, hand held radio sets and other accessories to the Ministry for National Disaster Management.

The items will allow them to meet targets set out in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in their National Disaster Risk Policy.

Minister for National Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu says the $40,000 worth of items will not only upscale NDMO’s emergency communication capabilities but also ensure the effective dissemination of messages at the height of any event.

Seruiratu says New Zealand has cooperated bilaterally on the regional and multilateral fronts on several pressing global issues and has always responded generously to our needs.

He says they are grateful for all the support rendered so far.
