Ministries have been advised to extend their support towards the commemoration of the 145th Girmit Day celebration by releasing their civil servants to participate in organised events.
The eagerly anticipated celebration is set to take place at the Lautoka Girmit Multi-Cultural Center from tomorrow until Monday.
Permanent Secretary for Civil Service, Parmesh Chand says Girmit Day stands as an essential occasion for all Fijians to come together and celebrate the shared history and the enduring spirit of the Fijian community.
Chand says this annual event pays tribute to the enduring legacy of the Girmit indentured labourers whose contributions have profoundly enriched Fiji's cultural tapestry.
The official festivities will kick off tomorrow, featuring a vibrant array of cultural performances and entertainment throughout the day.
Attendees will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the traditions and customs that highlight Fiji's rich heritage.
The main celebration will be on Monday, May 13th, with the distinguished presence of President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere.
Simultaneously, a parallel event is scheduled for Labasa at Subrail Park from 2pm to 5pm tomorrow.
