The Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism and Local Government Premila Kumar has told participants of the Australian Institute of Company Directors- Fiji Directors Course that the Ministry will also be looking at some of them to fill vacancies that may arise in a number of statutory boards.
Kumar says the training course has been organised by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism in partnership with the Australian Institute of Company Directors for the first time because they recognise this as a need.
Kumar says this is a need that continuously has to be met to enhance service delivery, especially in government and statutory authorities, by ensuring that they understand their obligations and duties to customers, the organisation and government.
She says a greater level of transparency and accountability is needed in their service delivery.
The Minister says the Fiji Directors Course is a unique tailor-made training opportunity for professionals with its key message and facilitates healthy discussions on good governance.
She says the training is designed to challenge statutory boards to set higher standards particularly in terms of adopting a much more comprehensive approach to risk management, diversity, change and the need to adapt to new technologies.
The three day course has 26 participants from Fiji Revenue & Customs Service, Ministry of Industry Trade and Tourism, Fijian Competition & Consumer Commission, Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources and Tourism Fiji.
