Former All Blacks and Wallabies assistant and skills coach Michael Byrne has been named as the Fijian Drua Head Coach.
Prior to this Byrne also had a playing and coaching career in the AFL.
Fijian Drua Interim CEO Brian Thorburn says Byrne will be with the Drua for the next two years.
Thorburn says having someone of Bryne’s caliber and experience is fantastic.
He says under his belt, Byrne has two Rugby World Cup titles, five Rugby Championships and 11 Bledisloe cups with the All Blacks.
Byrne says he has followed and admired the way Fijian teams play the game over the course of his coaching career and he is excited to help the Drua showcase this to the world when the new Super Rugby season starts.
He says they are not under any illusions that it will be easy and they understand the challenges ahead.
Meanwhile National Strength and Conditioning Coach at Fiji Rugby, Naca Cawanibuka will also join the side as the Head of Athletic Performance.
