The Methodist Church of Fiji is hoping to raise $3 million from their Solevu or Festival of Praise and Gift giving and Annual Conference which has been officially opened this morning at Furnival Park in Toorak.
Deputy General Secretary for the Methodist Church of Fiji Reverend Jeremaia Waqainabete says that the money is to be collected from their Solevu and also from the $15 tithe from each member of the church.
He adds that since tropical cyclone Winston the Methodist church has received a total of around $5 million in kind from overseas churches which has enabled them to assist families that were affected by the cyclone.
He has also highlighted that the money raised and donated to the Methodist church has been used to rebuild and repair the Methodist schools, churches and members’ homes around the country that were affected by the Cyclone and the recent flooding.
Waqainabete says that the conference will focus on ways to improve their church members’ livelihoods within the Church and in their community.
Waqainabete adds that the Methodist church is not only preparing its members spiritually but they are also encouraging them to be productive members of society.
The Annual Conference or Bose Ko Viti's representative session will begin next Monday and conclude on Friday.
