The new President of the Methodist Church in Fiji will be elected today as they open their Annual Conference or Bose Ko Viti.
This is after the current President Reverend Dr Tevita Banivanua completed serving his three year term.
The Methodist Church in Fiji's Secretary for Communications Reverend James Bhagwan says there will also be some Secretariat positions that will become vacant by the end of the year so a replacement or a successor will be elected.
Meanwhile the Methodist Church in Fiji collected a total of $2.1 million at the end of last week’s Solevu or Festival of Praise and Gift Giving.
Reverend Bhagwan says they will provide a breakdown on how the money will be used, later today.
He says they will be looking at a number of social issues that have been affecting the country and resolutions brought up from their various divisions.
He adds that they will also have a senior representative from the Fiji Police Force to talk about the increase in the crime rate and how police and the Methodist Church can work together to address these issues.
