The Methodist Church in Fiji today held the induction service for the President, Vice President, General Secretary and Deputy General Secretary Elect of the Church at Centenary Church in Suva.

The service was a celebration of the diversity of the Methodist community with special songs from the Indian, Rotuman and Rabi divisions.

The President, Vice President, General Secretary and Deputy General Secretary Elect will not take up their positions until January 2018 along with others elected in this week's conference.

Methodist Church’s General Secretary, Reverend Dr. Epineri Vakadewavosa was chosen by the 2017 Annual Conference as President‑elect of the Church.

Reverend Vakadewavosa says one of his main focuses when he takes over the post from January next year is to increase their membership.

This after it was revealed there has been a decline in their membership by 2,076.

Reverend Vakadewavosa believes that numbers will increase from next year as most of the church members were not counted this year.

The 2016 Statistics Report presented in last year’s conference showed that 3,554 members left the church in the 12 month period.

The church membership recorded for 2016 was 198,610.

There were 202,164 members of the Methodist Church in 2015.
