Sharlene Mercer has turned her hobby of baking into a popular small-medium enterprise brand after she stepped up to support her family when her husband’s working hours were reduced due to COVID-19.
Mercer says she used her baking skills to sell cookies which has quickly grown and has established its mark in the local market.
The Nadi based businesswoman who owns Biscuit Tin says she started off small with only three types of cookies but through feedback and requests from customers, she has added more varieties.
Mercer adds not only has her business established its mark in the local market but it continues to supplement her husband’s income as he is still on reduced working hours.
She encourages those who would be in the same situation to never give up.
Mercer is part of the Garden City Market which is held monthly in Suva and caters for about 80 to 100 vendors who are either entrepreneurs or have lost their jobs due to COVID-19.
