All Blacks and Crusaders legend Andrew Mehrtens says Super Rugby is dead in its current format and must change to a competition played solely in New Zealand and Australian time zones.
Mehrtens told the offtheball.com show that New Zealand is going to benefit ultimately from a revamped Super Rugby, and Australia will too.
He adds he has said for quite a while now that while the competition has expanded, it has not expanded in a consistent or logical way.
Mehrtens further says they just added a couple of teams here and there, it went to 14, 15, then it went to 18 and dropped back down.
Meanwhile, the Super Rugby Aotearoa kicks off on June 13th with the Chiefs taking on the Highlanders at 5.05pm while the Blues play the Hurricanes at 3.05pm Sunday on June 14th.
