A Methodist Church Minister is calling on the Government to think about the mental health of our younger generation, and conduct more research on medicinal marijuana in the country as this will become a guise or a camouflage for others, and the same problem will continue.
While speaking during the consultation for the establishment of a medicinal cannabis industry in Fiji held at the Epworth Hall in Suva, Sunia Mavai, who resides at Sawani Village in Naitasiri, says what we are seeing in especially the educational institutions in the country is the rebellious attitude of our young generation and the government cannot create a relevant curriculum to minimise the problem.
Mavai says he dealt with these problems when he was a school chaplain and questions the government on how they can bring in a system in the school curriculum that will help students deal with mental health because the problem of drug abuse is already in Fiji.
He is suggesting that deeper and proper research should be done before the implementation because without proper research or distorted research, they are just fast-tracking everything to make it a policy.
The medicinal cannabis consultation will continue at the Co-operative Office in the North in Labasa from 2pm to 4pm today and the Co-operative Office North in Savusavu from 10am to 12pm tomorrow. Navi
