McCaig wins Fiji’s first gold in 50 metre freestyle

Hansel McCaig has secured Fiji’s first gold medal at the Pacific Games after winning the Men’s 50 metre freestyle this evening.

David Young also from Fiji won silver.

In the Rugby League 9s, Fiji lost 8-0 to Samoa and settled for the silver medal while earlier in the evening the Women’s Rugby League 9s were able to secure a bronze medal after beating Samoa 4-0.

Team Fiji Women’s Volleyball are through to the semi final after defeating PNG in three straight sets and will face the winner of the Tahiti and Tuvalu game.

Earlier today, the Fiji Women’s Basketball team made it through to the semi finals after defeating Tonga 75-46 and will play the Cook Islands in the semi final.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Men’s Basketball team are through to the semi finals on Friday where they will play the winner of the game between PNG and New Caledonia.

Team Fiji Archery finished fourth in their Olympic qualifiers today.

Fiji is currently 13th on the medal tally with 1 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals.

New Caledonia still leads with 19 gold, 15 silver and 21 bronze while Australia is in second place with 13 gold, 11 silver and 3 bronze.
