30 families in Matawailevu village in Ra are thankful to the government for hearing their plea and providing them with seeds for home gardening.
Village Headman Iseia Vonowale says they were facing a food shortage as they were inside the containment area and were not able to go into town for supplies.
He says they wrote to the Ministry for Agriculture and are thankful that the assistance has come at the right time given the current situation.
Vonowale says most of the villagers are now without jobs and the seeds will go a long way towards their food security.
They received seedlings for cabbage, tomatoes, eggplant, pumpkins, and beans.
The Ministry of Agriculture is urging Fijians who have received the seed packages to utilize this period to plant and at the same time make use of the opportunity to stay fit and healthy.
