An early morning raid by Police on an inter-island vessel led to the discovery of substances believed to be marijuana destined for distribution.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu says a team from the Central Division and Fiji Police Detector Dog Unit (FDDU) raided the vessel on arrival at the Narain Jetty in Walu Bay, Suva this morning.
ACP Driu says a bag filled with dried leaves wrapped in several packs and loose dried leaves believed to be marijuana was seized during the raid.
He says the seized substances were destined for sale, and the successful raid has potentially saved innocent lives from the devastating impacts of illicit drugs.
ACP Driu is issuing a warning to cultivators and suppliers, that police are not going to back down and will continue to direct all efforts into disrupting the illicit trade.
He says drugs remain a core focus of policing operations considering their link to other crimes.
He further says that operations and investigations are running in parallel to also look at the element of proceeds of crime.
