The Acting Medical Superintendent of CWM Hospital and Head of FEMAT, Doctor Luke Nasedra says many people are dying due to COVID-19 because they are receiving medical treatment too late.

He says most of the people that have died are from the ages of 50 years and above.

He is encouraging families who have elderly people at home to present them to the hospital if they see or feel that they are starting to experience the effects of COVID-19.

Dr Nasedra says people should be aware if a family member is showing symptoms of COVID-19 and they need to be brought in immediately to the hospital.

He adds these people will need the right medical treatment so they can recover.

The Head of FEMAT says many people are dying now of COVID-19 because they arrive late at the hospital and it is hard for them to treat patients who are considered severe or critical cases.

Fiji has recorded 299 COVID-19 deaths since the first case was reported in March 2020.
