A 69-year-old man who pleaded guilty to raping his 11 year old grand niece on Koro Island will be sentenced on the 31st of this month.
It was heard in court that the man has previous convictions such as defilement, drunk and disorderly and act with intent to cause grievous harm.
The defence lawyer informed the court that the man’s last conviction was in 2000 and he should be considered as someone with previous good character and had also pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.
The State has filed submissions that there is a 58 years age disparity between the two and that there is an element of breach of trust.
High Court Judge, Justice Riyaz Hamza has further remanded the man in custody.
