18-year-old Timoci Matanimeke, who allegedly stabbed a man in Samabula during an attempted robbery on Christmas Eve, has been further remanded in custody.

Matanimeke has been charged with one count of criminal trespass and one count of aggravated robbery. However, his charges may probably change to murder after the death of the victim.

The prosecutor says they need more time to seek further information and to obtain the post-mortem results.

60-year-old Nitya Nand, who was admitted at the CWM Hospital following the violent incident in Samabula, died on the 8th of this month.

Police had confirmed that Matanimeke allegedly entered Nand’s home and attempted to carry out a robbery and, in the process, used a knife to stab him.

Matanimeke will reappear in the Suva High Court on 16th February.
