A man has died after he was shot by police following a confrontation with officers at Central Station in Sydney, Australia's CBD.
In a statement, NSW Police said police were called to Eddy Avenue just before 8.45 last night following reports of an armed robbery.
Witnesses said a man holding scissors in his hand confronted the owner of a florist shop at the station, causing bystanders to call police.
They said that when officers arrived, the man refused to put the scissors down, causing officers to shoot him at least three times at close range.
The man appeared lifeless after the shooting, with police crowding over him to offer first aid. Photographs from the scene later showed the scene had been cordoned off with police tape.
