An accounts clerk of Nasinu, Roneel Chand was today sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his wife in February 2011.
High Court Judge, Justice Salesi Temo while delivering his sentence said that 32-year-old Chand set his 26-year-old wife on fire when everyone was out of his house at Reba Circle in Nadera.
This was after a heated domestic argument.
Five days later, Chand’s wife passed away.
Justice Temo further said that Chand planned to carry out his evil deeds when his mother and sister left the house and his method of killing showed an utter disregard for human life.
Justice Temo said that throughout the proceeding, Chand showed no remorse.
A non parole period of 18 years imprisonment has been imposed on him.
