A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to 11 months imprisonment by the Savusavu Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to the theft of yaqona.
Teisi Timoteo uprooted and stole 10 plants of green yagona which had a value of $500 in September 2015 from a farm in Bani Settlement in Rabi Island.
Magistrate Cama Tuberi stated that it was a planned theft.
He says yagona theft is very frequent in the Northern Division and a deterrent sentence needs to be issued to denounce the theft of yagona in Vanua Levu.
