Man escapes custody while police officer ties his shoe lace

33-year-old Deshwar Kishore Dutt whose aggravated robbery case was listed for judgement today escaped from the Suva High Court this morning.

The escorting officer Sepeti Tabaiwalu told High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo that he was tying his shoe lace when Dutt ran away.

Tabaiwalu told the court that they looked around but could not find him.

Justice Temo told the escorting officer that tax payers do not pay tax for their irresponsibility.

Justice Temo told him that to understand a criminal, the officers should think like a criminal.

Dutt is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery.

It is alleged that on 20th July, 2014, Dutt robbed two families in Samabula and stole assorted items total value of $165,863.

Justice Temo will deliver his judgement on the case today.
