A 36-year-old man from Cabuya settlement in Bua has died in a car collision in Batiri, Labasa.
Police say the accident occurred at around 4.35pm yesterday when the victim was returning home from work.
They say the victim was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old man from the same area and upon reaching Batiri, they overtook a parked bus and collided with an oncoming truck driven by a 45-year-old man from Tabia, Labasa.
Police say the man died instantly due to the impact.
Fiji Police Force Director Traffic, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana says this is the second accident in two days where speeding and overtaking have resulted in fatalities.
SSP Divuana is calling on drivers to consider other road users on the road while driving as this kind of behaviour not only puts other drivers at risk but passengers and pedestrians are also at risk.
SSP Divuana says people involved in the Labasa accident were returning home from work yesterday while people involved in the Nadi accident were on their way to visit a relative in the hospital and there was no need to rush but the poor decision has cost two lives.
