A 55-year-old man of Tavua has died while a 44-year-old man is in hospital after the locomotive they where in tumbled down the Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) train lane Bridge at Lausa, Tavua. The two were carting loaded railway carts to be taken down to FSC Mill in Ba.
Divisional Police Commander Western, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Iakobo Vaisewa says the incident occurred around midday, yesterday.
SSP Vaisewa says while approaching the FSC Train lane bridge at Lausa, the locomotive tumbled towards the left side and fell into a dry creek with a few cane carts.
He says the fall was about five meters and both men were trapped inside the Locomotive.
The Divisional Police Commander says officers from Tavua Police and Fire Station worked together in retrieving the trapped men.
He says the 44-year-old Locomotive Driver is now admitted at Lautoka Aspen Hospital for further treatment while the body of his 55-year-old points man (crew) is at the Ba Aspen Hospital Morgue.
SSP Vaisewa says while the incident is unfortunate, Police investigations are underway.
