Former South Africa rugby coach Nick Mallett has challenged the All Blacks to come to South Africa to play the Springboks as the fate of the Rugby Championship hangs in the balance in the current COVID climate.
Mallett has also defended the Springboks’ much-criticised style of play and pointed out key areas where he believes they are superior to New Zealand.
The Boks saw off Argentina 29-10 in Port Elizabeth yesterday.
Mallett, who oversaw one of the most successful phases of the Boks in the professional environment, believes the current team shouldn’t be criticised for their winning approach and wants to see it against the free-flowing style of the All Blacks, believing South Africa have the game to suffocate their old rivals.
Mallett had a record 17 consecutive test wins during his time in charge from 1997 to 2000.
He says the Springboks play within the laws and were penalised far less than Argentina.
Mallett says they have got a far better set-piece than the All Blacks, a better maul, and a better kicking game than the All Blacks.
Mallett hopes the 100th test between the Springboks and All Blacks that was to be played in Dunedin can be saved and suggested it could be played in South Africa along with the Rugby Championship tests against the Wallabies.
He adds the All Blacks need to show the strength of personality to come over in South Africa and play the 100th test in South Africa.
