13-year-old Malakai Apisai who had been suffering from heart disease, has received a new lease of life after a surgery conducted at the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Heart Hospital.
His mother, Camari Serukula says she is grateful to the hospital for providing free services for parents who cannot afford such expensive treatments.
Serukula says her son attended Wailotua District School and in November last year, a team from the Sai Prema Hospital conducted a screening at the school where her son was one of the two students selected out of hundreds to undergo heart surgery.
Apisai is from Malabi Village in Tailevu.
Serukula is urging other parents to take their children for screening for early detection.
The happy mother says a few days after the surgery, her son was active and ready to go home.
Communications Fiji Limited Chair, William Parkinson presented the Gift Of Life certificate to Apisai.
