The Ministry of Tourism is currently working on some major events like a Super Rugby match, NRL match, the World Surfing League and Stand up Paddleboard to be hosted here next year.
Tourism Minister, Faiyaz Koya says they are happy to have the Melbourne Storm playing an exhibition match in Fiji in December this year and in 2016.
Koya confirms that they are almost closing the talks to have some Super Rugby games to be played in Fiji next year.
Reliable sources have told Fijivillage that the Crusaders may play one of their matches in Fiji next year if all goes well.
The Melbourne Storm rugby league team will play against a local team selected by Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama.
The Storm will also train in Fiji in December this year and in 2016. Alongside their training, the club will have coaching clinics for local clubs and young people as well as open trials for aspiring rugby league players.
The proposed exhibition match will be a 9’s match between key Storm players and the Prime Minister’s invitation team.
The Prime Minister and the Club Chairman also agreed to the Storm playing a regular season match in Fiji against another NRL team within the NRL competition from 2017 and every year thereafter.
Meanwhile Koya says that another international tournament they are working on is the Fiji International Golf Tournament which was a success this year.
After the Fiji International this year, Minister for Finance Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum announced that the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course will undergo some major upgrade work and he has held discussions in this regard with the Chairman of the Fiji National Provident Fund and golfer, Vijay Singh.
