Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau has stated in Parliament that the Government is committed to improving road infrastructure in Vanua Levu.
Ro Filipe highlighted this while responding to Opposition MP Vijay Nath’s question on the condition of the Savusavu to Labasa road.
He says some parts of the road have noticeably worsened due to prolonged unfavourable weather, affecting maintenance and construction activities.
He also confirms that a significant budget has been allocated to the Fiji Roads Authority for nationwide upgrades, with major works already underway in Labasa, Seaqaqa, Savusavu and surrounding areas.
The Minister assured Parliament that steps are being taken, including re-tendering contracts to local contractors and involving community groups through small works programs.
He says improving the Savusavu to Labasa road is critical for the people in the Northern Division and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening procurement and project management for long-term infrastructure improvements.
Ro Filipe says due to the atrocious conditions of some roads, certain sections will require a full rip and remake.
