Opposition Member of Parliament Alvick Maharaj says Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka should suspend and strip Minister for Sugar, Charan Jeath Singh of his portfolio and ban him from all future overseas travel, while Lynda Tabuya says Maharaj should know better as Singh is not there to respond to his accusations.
Maharaj highlighted this in parliament this morning while raising a point of order saying that Charan Jeath Singh is not only bringing shame to himself but to the nation at large.
He says Singh is not worthy at national level as his recent actions and Facebook posts while at COP29 has brought great humiliation to the nation and towards our hard-working civil servants.
He says Singh’s integrity is in question, as he is not working diligently and him removing his Facebook posts testifies that his action was wrong and unwarranted.
The Opposition member is demanding a verbal and written public apology from Singh in parliament from all hard-working civil servants and the nation.
Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Lynda Tabuya responded to the point of order that was raised, saying the Member being discussed is not in the House, and that Alvick Maharaj should know better so that he can have an opportunity to respond.
Speaker of the House, Filimone Jitoko says natural justice demands that the member who has been identified is there to respond to the allegations being made.
He says Singh is not present and he will rule that this question of point of order is out of order.
The Speaker says until such time as the Honourable Member is there, Maharaj may then raise the issue that he raised this morning.
