As Hindus celebrate ‘Maha Shivratri today, Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji is reminding all that it is a celebration of togetherness and kindness.
The Sabha urges Hindus to do charity and service on Maha Shivratri celebration by feeding the poor, donating to temples or charitable organizations and helping those in need.
They say these acts of kindness are believed to earn merit and blessings from Lord Shiva.
Maha Shivratri is celebrated in Fiji with great enthusiasm and devotion by the Sanatan Dharm community, who observe the festival in various ways, such as fasting and offering prayers, signing bhajans and involving in charity works.
The Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji says according to Hindu mythology, Maha Shivratri marks the night when Lord Shiva performed the heavenly dance of creation, preservation and destruction.
It is also believed to be the night when Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married, and therefore, devotees observe this day as a celebration of marital bliss and divine union.
