The Paramount Chief of the province of Macuata Ratu Aisea Katonivere has asked to step aside from the position of chairman for the Macuata Provincial Council.

This is because he has to look after his traditional role as the Tui Macuata.

The newly elected chairman is Ratu Tevita Roqica and his deputy is Ratu Wili Katonivere.

At the meeting yesterday, it was highlighted the importance of gender balance in the committee and sub-committee of the Council.

By following that, two women were selected, as was endorsed by Ratu Katonivere to include women in the Council.

Adi Samanunu Katonivere and Adi Senimili Dyer were selected.

Meanwhile, today the Council will make a decision in relation to the piece of land in the town of Labasa to be given to the Fiji National University of Fiji to construct a national campus.

The request was submitted by Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday when he opened the Macuata Provincial Council meeting.
