Health services in the rural and maritime region are expected to be boosted through the arrival of the Aotearoa ship, MV YWAM KOHA which will be providing medical services in this region for the next 3-months.
MV YWAM KOHA exists to reach the most isolated islands in the Pacific. Using ships to access these villages is not just the best option but the only one. They have operation locations in Panama, Papua New Guinea, Haiti, the Marshall Islands, and Cambodia.
Speaking during the welcome ceremony of the vessel, Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong says the arrival of the Aotearoa ship is a blessing to the Fijian people and also a boost to the Health Ministry.
He says the team will be providing health services in the Northern Division before moving out to the maritime regions such as the Lau Group.
Dr Fong adds that all different medical services will be provided by the team, especially in dental health.
The welcome ceremony was attended by Assistant Police Commissioner Sakeo Ganivatu, President of the Methodist Church of Fiji Reverend Ili Vunisuwai, a representative from the New Zealand High Commission Virginia Dawson and members of the public.
Entertainment was provided by the Fiji Police Band.
