The MV Lau Trader remains berthed at the Suva port for four months now due to some navigational equipment worth $80,000 being removed and not replaced.
This is according to Lau Shipping Company Limited Director Viliame Cavubati who claims the former chief engineer removed the equipment from the ship which included a radar, the global positioning system and radio.
Cavubati said the removal was allegedly permitted by the former director who he did not want to name and they have asked the police to investigate the matter.
Cavubati said they are looking at hiring the necessary equipment to resume services by this weekend.
Meanwhile, Police Southern Commanding Officer Tevita Waqabaca confirmed they met with both parties today and had discussions on the issue.
He said the parties have agreed to seek a court order to have the ship back in operation.
Police received a report yesterday in relation to the issue.
