The sunken MV Suilven

A full investigation has been carried out by the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji after the sinking of the MV Suilven at the Suva Harbour in November last year.

MSAF’s Technical Committee will sit and deliberate on the report this Friday and make recommendations on the actions to be taken which may include a request for an inquiry into the incident if found necessary.

This report has details on when the Suilven started encountering problems, whether distress calls were made from the vessel, when the calls were made, the ship’s cargo load, the reaction time and the monitoring of vessels going in and out of the crucial Suva Harbour passage.

Fijivillage has also sent questions to the Fiji Ports Authority on the options of removing the vessel from its current location.

The Fiji Ports Authority are yet to comment on this matter.
