Education is far more important than just what happens behind the walls of a classroom as it allows students to explore things, motivate, inspire and showcase students' talents and participate in other activities.
This was highlighted by Mahatma Gandhi High School Principal, Sanjay Raman during the Gandhi Jayanti Awards Day as the school celebrated Gandhi Day, Fiji Day, Teachers Day and Prize-giving Day in Suva today.
He says MGM High being one of the schools famous for academic excellence has also made history in the 2022 Coca Cola Games by winning 8 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze medal for the blue ribbon in the boys and girls divisions while the girls netball and soccer teams have qualified for the finals.
Raman says apart from sports, the school also managed to get an overall 94 percent pass in the year 13 exams and a 91 percent pass rate for year 12.
The highest mark for year 13 was 387/100 and year 12 was 391/400.
He says the school also took part in the oratory competition organised by the Ministry of Agriculture where it managed to secure 3rd place and the science team managed to be in the finals of the Chems and Bio battle organised by USP where the school won the first prize.
He further says all these achievements and commitments show that the school brings out the best in every child and that the students should receive a broad and balanced child-centred education.
To mark Gandhi Day celebrations, the students performed dance items, and songs, and took part in creative writing which allowed them to express themselves and showcase their creative skills and writing.
Students were also presented with the 2021 year 12 and 13 exams awards, 2022 extracurricular activity awards, 2021 external exam awards and prestigious awards.
Meanwhile, High Commissioner of India to Fiji, Shri PS Karthigeyan says Mahatma Gandhi was an inspiring great man who made a difference in the lives of many people and the mark of his legacy is not just in India but in the entire world.
