The MATA Dance Crew in collaboration with fashion designer, Samson Lee put on a show last night in aid of the MATA Dance Crew's participation at the World Hip Hop Dance Championship in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
The event was hosted by New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Jonathan Curr at his residence in Suva.
The MATA Dance Crew also performed at Fiji Showcase.
Having won the Mega Crew Division and Varsity Division in the Hip Hop International South Pacific Qualifier in New Zealand in April this year, the MATA Dance Crew are all set to compete against the world's very best this August.
MATA Dance director Tevita Tobeyaweni says he was very grateful to all those who came out to support, highlighting that competing at such a large event is not cheap.
He says that the air fares for the dancers is $48,000 and that the total expenditure could be $100,000.
MATA Dance Crew was formed in December last year where 20 dancers were selected through auditions to represent Fiji at the Regional Qualifiers.
Meanwhile MATA Dance Crew manager Sandy O’Brien says that the past couple of months has been a struggle in terms of finances.
She says that she is very grateful for those who were there to support the crew because the expenses for the tour will be a lot since they will have to pay for accommodation and food for the dancers among other expenses.
The World Hip Hop Dance Championship will be held in August.
