39-year-old Congo National Kiala Henry Lusaka who is alleged to have murdered his wife in Suva will be produced in court on the 13th of next month to take his plea.
Lusaka allegedly murdered his 44-year-old Australian wife on the 23rd of last month at Service Street in Suva.
Lusaka asked court for more time as he will be selling his family car and other assets to pay for a private lawyer as his credit and debit cards expire soon.
Lusaka had also asked for bail as he found it difficult to engage the services of a private lawyer while in custody.
Assistant DPP Elizabeth Rice says they will strongly object to bail.
When asked by High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar as to why he did not engage the services of Legal Aid, Lusaka replied that he wanted someone he could trust.
Justice Goundar also interrupted Lusaka saying he did not want Lusaka to incriminate himself as Lusaka tried to tell the court that he felt he was being trapped.
Lusaka has been further remanded in custody.
Outside the court house, Lusaka swore at some journalists taking video footage of him.
He said to the journalists “you want to see my ***** face.”
